Rathcabbin Development Association

Rathcabbin Development Association is a dedicated voluntary group committed to making Rathcabbin a wonderful place to live and visit. Through continuous efforts in visual improvements, our village has gained well-deserved recognition in the Tidy Towns Competition.

Rathcabbin, a charming village located at the northern tip of County Tipperary, Ireland, is nestled between Portumna, County Galway, and Birr, County Offaly, along the R489 regional road. Just 5 km east of the River Shannon and Lough Derg, Rathcabbin boasts breathtaking surroundings and a welcoming community.

Education is a vital part of our village, with Scoil Flannain Naofa providing outstanding learning opportunities for the next generation. Our vibrant community also takes pride in its recreational and cultural facilities. Visitors can experience the warmth of local hospitality at Kelly’s Last Chance Bar, attend gatherings in our newly reconstructed Village Hall, or admire our beautiful church, built by the community in 1984.

The Rathcabbin Players, our local drama group, delight audiences annually with impressive performances. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the strong hurling tradition in our village, with local players representing the Lorrha and Dorrha team.

Rathcabbin even gained cinematic fame when it served as the filming location for the award-winning 2007 film Garage. The village proudly hosted the film’s premiere, showcasing its unique charm on the big screen.

With community spirit at its heart, Rathcabbin continues to thrive, ensuring a bright future for all who call it home.

Check out the bees collecting and competing too! Our new stone walled ground flower bed at one entrance to Rathcabbin village is coming along nicely!

Thanks to Community Foundation Ireland for your ongoing support in helping us with putting our own agreed biodiversity recommendations into action. Without funding this would not have been as feasible for us to achieve this year. As volunteers, we are very grateful.

If any locals would like to join or assist with ad hoc volunteering with village upkeep and enhancements, please reach out to any member for info. We welcome any practical involvement and new members.
