Eimear Fogarty (Shannon Rovers) brought the Junior Munster and All Ireland cups to Lorrha school last week and our Deputy Principal Aoife McLoughney brought the Munster Minor and All Ireland cups. Eimear was a member of the Junior team that beat Laois by one point in the All Ireland final while Aoife was a selector on the Minor team. All the students were excited and delighted to get to hold the cups and have their photographs taken. Property Marking Event.
Gardai are asking the community to avail of the forthcoming property marking event which will take place in Rathcabbin Hall on Sunday 22nd of September from 12 to 3pm. Secure your property with the help of Community Policing. This is an event everyone should avail of. There will also be a coffee morning for anyone wishing to call down.
Weekend Residential Course.

Mike Denver Concert in Rathcabbin.
Country music star and Portumna man Mike Denver will be performing in Rathcabbin church on Sunday 22nd of September from 7pm to 9pm. It promises to be a fantastic night’s entertainment and your support will be very much appreciated. All funds raised will go towards the building of the community shop in Lorrha. Tickets costing €25 are now available from the Sceal shop, Lorrha, the Boathouse shop Portumna, Enda Heenan’s Borrisokane, the Derg Shop Terryglass and Sullivan’s shop in Ardcroney or any of the committee members. Collecting Photographs.
The Lorrha Development Association is collecting photographs for the “Lorrha & Dorrha Parish Calendar 2025.” If you possess captivating photos from this year or prior years, please forward them to lorrhadevelopment@gmail.com before the end of September. Portach Promenade – Redwood Bog Walk.
For many of us in this and surrounding regions, Redwood bog has been an integral part of our lives down through the decades, a place of peace and beauty and for some hardship as we battled to save turf and bring it home.
Deej Fabyc is a well-known local performance artist and video maker and is leading this project in memory of her partner in life and art Mark Newell. The project will involve a 5 KM walk open to all exploring the rich history and culture associated with this region focusing on promoting sustainability. There will be a number of guest speakers on the day.
Join us on Saturday October the 5th at 11am meeting at Redwood Castle. The project will be documented and is funded by a Creative Ireland and Arts grant from Tipperary County Council and agility award from the Arts Council.

Rathcabbin Hall committee are presently raising funds to complete the works on upgrading the existing toilets and to install a wheelchair accessible toilet. The committee were granted €49790 under the Clár grant but like most grants, the hall has to contribute 10% of the amount. Many thanks to all who contributed to the raffle which raised €3500. However. €1500 must still be raised to complete and pay for the remaining works. The new facilities look superb and will be a pride to the community when finished. Sympathy.
Sympathy is extended to Nuala and Eamon Maher and family, Rathcabbin, on the sudden death of Nuala’s sister Margaret Barton, Lusmagh.
Margaret who was née Sullivan, came from a well know Lusmagh family and was deeply immersed in all things that was good for her parish and also in nearby Banagher, passed away peacefully at home after a sudden illness bravely borne with her loving family by her side on Friday last 13th September.
Pre-deceased by her parents Sarah Jane and Michael James Sullivan, Margaret is deeply loved and mourned by her husband Pat, daughter Shona and sons Leslie and Aengus and their partners Paul, Emma and Jeannie, very sadly missed by her adored grandsons Shane and Leon, Shane’s partner Nadine and great grandchildren Jamie and Ellie. Margaret was the beloved eldest sister of brother Joe, sisters Ann (Feeney), Teresa (Nolan), Mary (Hynes), Kathleen (Coughlan) and Nuala (Maher), brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, godchildren, extended family, neighbours and large circle of friends to whom sympathy is offered.
After funeral Mass in St. Cronans Church, Lusmagh, on Monday last 16th burial took place in Kilmachonna cemetery. May she rest in peace.
Sympathy is also extended to Pamela and Pat Guinan and family Rathcabbin on the death of Pamela’s mother Mary Anne (Maureen) Daly, Birr.
Maureen who was née Hastings and a native of Drummindoo, Westport, Co. Mayo, passed away peacefully at Tullamore Hospital on Friday last September 13th. Beloved wife of Kevin. Sadly missed by her loving children – Kevin, Samantha, Laurence and Pamela, sons and daughters-in-law – Lorainne, Gary, Susan and Pat, grandchildren Melanie, Mark, Ódhran, Conal, Daragh, Saoirse and Óisin, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
After her funeral Mass on Monday in St. Brendan’s Church, Birr, burial took place in Clonoghill Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
News from Lorrha School.
We welcome back all students and their parents after the summer break. We also welcome our three new pupils Robert, Oaklyn and Méabh who are starting ‘big’ school for the first time. All have well and truly settled into routine at this stage. We hope you all have a very happy and successful year in Lorrha National School.
Scoil Lua Naofa would like to welcome Ms. Maeve O’Meara as the new SET teacher replacing Mrs. McIntyre who has retired, and also Ms. Caroline Kenny our new SNA who has joined our staff replacing Mrs. Duggan who also retired last June. We wish both ladies the best of luck in the years ahead in the school.
We had a right array of Silverware in the school last week. We continue to collect used batteries in association with WEEE Ireland, Battery Recycling. By taking part, we are helping to tackle climate change, protecting the environment and supporting the children, families and staff at Laura Lynn, Irelands Children Hospice. Used batteries, can be left into the school during opening times.
Local Club History.
Seamus King has kindly agreed to update the Lorrha GAA history from 1984 to date.
In co-operation with Seamus, Rose Mannion has kindly agreed to update the Lorrha camogie history for inclusion in the forthcoming publication.

Lorrha Tractor & Vintage Car Run.
Lorrha Tractor and Vintage car run takes place on Sunday 6th in Lorrha – E45 V651. Registration from 12 noon – cost €20. Truucks and bikes welcome. Raffle and auction on the day. All monies raised goes to Milford Hospice and Laura Lynn, Ireland’s only children’s hospice.
