Canadian lady Michelle Hogan who is a descendant of Luke Hogan and Elizabeth Bollard, visited Terryglass recently to see where her family came from. Elizabeth Bollard (1809 – 30th Dec 1896) was a daughter of Richard Bollard and Elizabeth White of Knockadaleen, Terryglass, Co.Tipperary. Elizabeth married Luke Hogan in Terryglass Church of Ireland on the 14thOct 1828. Luke (1799 – 1887) was a stone mason from Borrisokane area possibly Ballingarry.
Elizabeth and Luke left Ireland for Canada c1832 with Elizabeth’s family.

Another Lady Tracing Her Relations.
Mary Jo Kaifer is trying to trace her Lorrha relation the Carroll and Stanley families from Annagh, Lorrha. Jane Carroll Stanley was her great great grandmother and John Stanley, her husband, was her great great grandfather. Also their parents, William Stanley and Mary Hogan?, and William Carroll and Nora Cadwell. She hopes to make some connections and further her tree. St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement Association.
We wish to inform all our members that our computer class is starting back again this Wednesday, 12th October, 2016 in St. Ruadhan’s Community Hall, Lorrha. Time of class is 1pm to 3pm. Because of the change to the time of the class, our normal weekly meeting will follow on from 3pm to 5pm. We do hope this will not cause too much inconvenience to you all.On the 19th October, Margaret Quinn from Muintir na Tire will be giving a talk on Community Alert and also on the need for the pendant alarms for older people and people living on their own. Margaret will be with us at 3.30pm and this talk is open to all. Also we would like to offer our deepest sympathy to Eamonn and all the Mannion family on the recent death of their brother, Michael. Also to Annie Cowan, Phyl Jordan, Breda Leake and the Wrafter family on the recent death of their sister, Theresa McKenna. May they rest in peace.

Poker Classic Success.
Val O’Meara wishes to say ‘thank you’ to everyone for the support of the recent poker classic held in the ’Friars Tavern’ in aid of Concern. In total €1100 was raised from that event for the charity.

Tipperary County Council Library Service invites you to attend the annual Tipperary people and places lecture series, which returns to Tipperary studies, The Source, Cathedral St., Thurles for its tenth series this winter. Autumn De-Clutter.
When cleaning out your wardrobe to make room for the autumn collection, please remember Lorrha Development/Tidy Towns who continue to collect unwanted clothes throughout the year. Items of clothing must be clean and dry and in good condition please and we can supply bags if you want. We can also collect to make it easy for you, just call (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (087) 2601413 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows, cushions, carpets, rugs and maths including bath toilet and shower math’s, soiled or wet clothing. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed. Many thanks for your continued support.
GAA News
Under 21: Our Under 21’s got their North ‘B’ Championship campaign off to the best possible start with a 2-19 to 2-8 win over Borrisokane in Borrisokane on Sunday afternoon with both goals coming from Jamie Lewis. Lorrha’s next game is against Portroe in Portroe on Sunday 16th October at 12 noon.
Tipperary Clubs Draw: The October draw takes place this Friday 14th October in Templemore. All promoters are asked to bring their accounts up to date.
All Stars: Congratulations to Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher who was nominated for a Hurling All Star last week. The All Star awards take place on Friday 4th November. Well done also to Brian Hogan was also nominated in the goalkeeper category for an Under 21 Rising Star award but wasn’t selected on the team on the year.

Social Dancing: on Friday night to the music of Unity. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am. At our Social Dance on Friday 28th October with Checkers, the Social Dance committee will donate the profits from the door takings the Tipperary Alzheimers Society while a raffle will also take place.
