On Saturday, 12th October 2024, the Lorrha & Dorrha GAA Community Hall hosted a special event to honour the life of legendary hurler Tony Reddin. The evening, organized by the Heritage Subcommittee of the Lorrha Development Association, featured a video screening titled “Hero of Three Counties”, the latest episode in the ongoing “Treasured Memories” series.

The event, led by Master of Ceremonies Michael Brophy, focused on video interviews with individuals who shared personal stories about Tony Reddin. The interviews, conducted by Michael Brophy and series producer Peter Seman, included heartfelt recollections from Maura Reddin, Majella Reddin, Paddy Dermody, Michael Liffey, Philip McIntyre, Pat McLoughney, Brian and Pad Joe Whelahan, Seamus King, and Damien Martin. These stories provided a vivid picture of Reddin’s exceptional life as a sportsman and a beloved figure within his community.
Tony Reddin, is celebrated as one of the greatest hurling goalkeepers, with lasting impact in Galway, Tipperary, and Offaly. His remarkable contributions to the sport, as well as his humility and character, were fondly remembered throughout the evening.
The event was attended by several of those interviewed in the film, along with members of Tony Reddin’s family, friends, and fans who had travelled from near and far to be part of the occasion. The atmosphere was filled with warmth and nostalgia as guests reflected on Reddin’s legacy.
After the screening, attendees enjoyed tea, coffee, and an assortment of delicious treats, allowing for further conversation and connection. The Heritage Subcommittee extends their gratitude to everyone who participated, making it a memorable and enjoyable evening.
This was the second instalment of the “Treasured Memories” series, with more screenings planned for early next spring, continuing the tradition of celebrating local legends.
