Lorrha Notes

Lorrha Development Association entered the Dulux Brighten your Community earlier this year and were delighted that their entry was first of all shortlisted and then successful in getting through the final stages of the project. The judging panel were ‘impressed’ that the Development members were working on a new park in the village and the entry for free paint was deemed to be ‘well worthy of a helping hand’. Our thanks to Dulux for the free paint.

Late Jack Hoctor.

The unexpected death occurred on Friday July 15th . of Jack Hoctor Ballyhasty Cloughjordan and formerly Sharragh Rathcabbin. Jack who passed away on the eve of his 62nd. birthday was a much loved character both in his adopted parish and in his native parish of Lorrha. Born and raised in Sharragh he moved to Cloughjordan and took up farming in 1979 on his marriage to Kathleen (Lowry). He loved life and was content with his lot. Never forgetting his roots he returned to his home parish for many occasions and for the sing song and comaraderie in Pat Hough’s pub which he always enjoyed. Although an easy going and quiet individual he was very well know as he followed many events such as the ploughing and the GAA. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him but in particular by his wife and family. Sympathy is extended to Kathleen Claire Eilish and Ann brother Michael (Rathcabbin) sisters –in-law nieces nephews relatives neighbours and friends on their great loss.
After funeral Mass in St. Michael & John’s Church Cloughjordan on Tuesday 19th. burial took place in the local cemetery. May he rest in peace.

Put ‘Em Under Pressure.

Sharon Newman Audience Researcher is working on a brand new RTE sports quiz show Put ‘Em Under Pressure which will air on Sunday evenings in September on RTE 1 and she is looking for sports teams for the audience. Sharon wants to see if there is interest from sports clubs etc. in North Tipperary. The show itself sees two teams of famous sports stars and pundits go head-to-head in this entertaining sports quiz. Consisting of 8 episodes the quiz show will be filmed in studio in RTE in Donnybrook from the 8th to the 11th of August in front of an audience each day. For this Sharon is looking to get sports teams clubs and supporters groups on board from noth just North Tipperary but right around the country to join the audience in each episode. The clubs give their own representation through this by wearing their club or team colours crests sporting attire etc (something representative of what you do). The show is going to be entertaining and fun and will be a great day out for teams interested. She also want a good mix of sports involved so whether the team or group consists 5 or 50! As the show is being filmed in early August and places are limited she would like to hear from teams as soon as possible who may be interested and would like more information. Sharon can be contacted at any time on sharon.newman@shinawil.com or 01 2084646/ Direct Line: 01 208 4646 / Main Line: 01 208 3111 or by post at Montrose House RTÉ Donnybrook Dublin 4.

St. Ruadhan’s Active Retirement.

On Wednesday 13th July 28 of our members enjoyed a trip on the Shannon with Joe O’Keeffe and his skippers Kieran and Johnny. When Nancy booked our trip she also ordered the sunshine and we sure had plenty of it. We had a delightful day sunbathing up on deck with refreshments served on board. This was followed by a delicious 4 course meal at O’Keeffe’s Country Home Carrigahorig. Many thanks to Joe and all his staff for their generous hospitality. Should anyone want a good afternoon or evening on the Shannon we certainly recommend Joe.
Would all our members please note that there is a change of date for our walk in the Forest Park Portumna and our meal afterwards at the Golf Club. This was scheduled for Wednesday 27th July and it is now changed to Thursday 28th July. Should anyone wish to join us on the walk or just for the meal please contact Nancy on 090 9747922 or 087 761 3458.

Smile Awhile:

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club when a mobile phone on a
bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to
talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen.

MAN: "Hello"

WOMAN: "Hi Honey it’s me . Are you at the club?"

MAN: "Yes."

WOMAN: "I’m at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It’s
only 2000 euro. Is it OK if I buy it?"

MAN: "Sure go ahead if you like it that much."

WOMAN: "I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one I really liked."

MAN: "How much?"

WOMAN: "90000 euro."

MAN: "OK but for that price I want it with all the options."

WOMAN: "Great! Oh and one more thing. I was just talking to Janie and
found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They’re
asking 980000 euro for it."

MAN:

"Well then go ahead and make an offer of 900000. They’ll probably
take it. If not we can go the extra eighty-thousand if it’s what you really
want."

WOMAN: "OK. I’ll see you later! I love you so much!"

MAN: "Bye! I love you too."
The man hangs up. The other men in the locker room are staring at him in
astonishment mouths wide open.

He turns and asks "Anyone know whose phone this is?”

The feed back from the "Smile Awhile" section has been truly astonishing. Great to hear that so many people enjoy the weekly laugh and look forward to reading it every week.  Keep the stories coming and remember you are helping to keep people smiling ….
