50th Anniversary

Paddy and Rita Reddan, England and Lorrha decided to celebrate a very special occasion recently when they travelled over from England to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on 2nd October with members of their family who reside in the parish and extended family members. Congratulations and well done Paddy and Rita. 

Training Course.

A Defibrillator training course will take place in Redwood NS on Wednesday, 21st October at 7.00pm Anyone that has requested training is already booked in.There are still places available should anyone wish to train in this life saving skill. Redwood N.S. Halloween Camp!!

Halloween Camp in Redwood N.S. for 3-10 year olds. Running Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th October from 9.30am until 2.00 pm. Camp will be Halloween themed – Come in costume!!! Halloween art & craft, cookery, computers – blogging, i-pads, learning through play and lots and lots of spooky fun!!! €15 per day. Calendar Launch.

The launch of the 2016 Lorrha Parish Calendar will take place in The Ferry Inn on Saturday night November 7th. at 9.30p.m. Music on the night by the popular Puca Lane who have just launched their new CD of the same name. All are invited to a good night of entertainment.

Lorrha Development Association / Tidy Towns will hold their Annual General meeting on Thursday night October 15th at 8.00pm in Lorrha Hall. We urge people to come along and support the meeting.

Date For Your Diary.

The annual Lorrha Christmas Market and Auction will take place as like previous years, on the first Sunday in December which falls this year on the 6th. We will be having all the usual fun of the fair as well as the auction for fuel, fodder etc. More details later.

Winter De-Clutter.

Thinking of clearing out the wardrobe to make room for the Winter collection? Lorrha Development/ Tidy Towns continue with unused clothes collection throughout the Winter months. De-clutter your wardrobe, attack your attic, recycle all unwanted/unused items of clothing to make room for your Winter collection. We will accept any kind of bag or in bags provided by the committee. We can collect your unwanted items. Just call or text  (086) 8647166, (086) 8493595 or (086) 8355405 with your name and details. Please note we cannot accept Duvets, bedding, household linen, pillows and cushions, carpets, rugs and mats (including bath, shower and toilet mats), soiled or wet clothing. We appreciate your support. All money raised from all fundraising ventures is used for the ongoing work around Lorrha Village which helps to keep two adults employed.

Portumna Rugby Club.

Training times for various teams in Portumna Rugby club are as follows. Minis U8 to U12 boys and girls can train on Sunday mornings at 10.30am Girls U13, U15 and U18 on Wednesday evenings at 7pm and on Saturdays at 11am. Boys U14 on Tuesdays at 6.30 and again on Saturday’s at 12noon. Senior women train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7pm and senior men on Friday evenings at 7pm. Monster Auction.

Portumna Rugby Pitch Development – Monster Auction on Sunday 1st November at 12.30pm in Portumna Mart. Items such as Turf, Timber, Animal Feedstuffs, Electrical Goods and much more will be available on the day. All proceeds are going towards the development of new playing facilities for everyone in the wider community to enjoy. Please come along and support.

Zombie Mile for Temple Street.

On October 30th there will be a charity zombie mile taking place at the athletics track in Borrisokane. We need to raise vital funds for Temple Street Hospital so please have some fun, dress up like a zombie and join us on the night. The mile will start at 7pm so grab as many zombie family and friends you can find and do your part. Donations on the night.

Mental Health Week.

Mental Health Week 2015 took place from the 5th – 11th of October and included World Mental

Health Day on Saturday last 10th October. The World Health Organisation’s theme for this year is Dignity in Mental Health. The Mental Health Associations are hosting and organising a range of activities in communities all over Ireland in the coming weeks. Check out www.yourmentalhealth.ie for more information. Mental Health Ireland suggest a 5 point plan to protect your Mental Health:

  1. Connect with others. 2. Be Active – “The more you move the better your mood!”
  2. Take Notice of each moment. 4. Keep Learning – take up a new skill, sport, activity, etc.
  3. Give (an hour spent volunteering or doing something for someone else can make a huge difference).

GAA News

Under 21 Hurling: Well done to the U21 hurlers who produced a good second half performance with 14 men to defeat Shannon Rovers Gaels, 2-20 to 1-18 in the first round in Ballingarry on Sunday afternoon. Two second half goals from Jamie Lewis proved the difference as Lorrha progress to either a quarter or semi-final in the coming weeks.

Under 13: Well done to the U13 hurlers who defeated Burgess, 0-9 to 1-2, on Saturday to win the North ‘B’ Plate final in Borrisokane. The win sets the team up well for next years Under 14 Championship.

Camogie: Hard luck to the Junior Camogie team who lost to Toomevara in the County Junior ‘A’ semi-final on Saturday.

Race Night: The club will be hosting a fundraising Race Night in the GAA Centre on Saturday, 24th October. We have had a fantastic response so far and horses are currently being sold at the moment at €10 and your support would be appreciated.

Social Dancing: continues on Friday night to the music of Pat Daly. Dancing 9.30pm to 12.30am. Practice every Monday night from 8.30-10.30pm.
